The Land of Stories has been my personal favorite book of all time for about 3 years since when I first read it. Here’s a book review of the magnificent series.
The Land of Stories combines your favorite fairy tales to make characters you fall in love with. Little Red Riding Hood becomes a queen, the fairy godmother’s twisting tale of conspiracy in the later books regarding her sons, and Old Mother Goose, a funny, deranged old woman with a pet goose named Lester who is quite stubborn, her stories about dating Leonardo Da Vinci and inspiring Napoleon are highlights of the comedic character. The adventures, treasure hunts, exploration, adventure, romance, funny characters, writing, going into books, potions, ice queens, and sea witches make this book extremely worthwhile.
Ever wonder where writers like Hans Cristian Anderson or the Grimm brothers got their story ideas for books like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, the Little Mermaid, and so many others? In the Land of Stories, there are two dimensions, two worlds. The “otherworld” as the earth is known as to the many fairies, wizards, witches, elves, kings, and queens of the fairytale world is our world. Alex and Conner Bailey were the first people born of both worlds, a father from the fairytale world, a mother from the otherworld. But they don’t know it. They have grown up like normal kids, loving their possibly magical grandmother and mourning the death of their father at the beginning of the book. Alex is smart and independent and loves fairytales and school. Conner couldn’t be more different. He’s funny and doesn’t seem to care much about school and fairytales. But the combination of these twins in an exhilarating adventure combining your favorite fairy tales to each other is magical, and the author, Chris Colfer is a magical crafter of these wonderful books. The theme of magic is eerie and mysterious, like a mystery that is unsolved until the end of the book. The cliffhangers at the end of the chapters and the books make you want to keep reading and get you stuck in the realm of mystery, fantasy, excitement, wonder, and more. I am warning you, however, at the end of a lot of the books, there is a cliffhanger that torchers you until you read the next book, so make sure you have the next book before you finish one.
I highly recommend the Land of Stories to all ages. I have read the series about 9 times and think these books are amazing, really creative, and seems so realistic that it leaves you wondering if you actually experienced the adventures or just read them.
