On the last day of non-social-distancing learning, the 75 students of Long-View Micro School met in a large room. For 20 minutes we talked about all the great things that had happened over the year so far. It was almost as if Long-View teachers knew what might happen, planned several ideas, and decided to make a big deal when it came to the goodbye. But no student (or teacher for that matter) was prepared for what was to come. So the Long-View Gazette adapted to change. We went digital and started to report on COVID-19. For a look at our history, we started this newspaper late October-early November. It feels like a decade has passed since then. The news rush, schoolwork, and on top of that, for the last month or two of school, the country has shut down school for millions of kids nationally. Now, we have reached the summer. As for what we are doing for summer, the answer is nothing, absolutely nothing. This year, we have all worked very hard and need a break. We will be back up and running completely on September 1st, 2020. As for what we will be doing, there are always more possibilities. The Coronavirus has given us tons of things to write about so we might need your help to come up with more things next year. Please email long.view.gazette@gmail.com to offer suggestions. We might continue to do a new podcast entitled “looking back” which interviews people about their past experiences with COVID-19. We are also hiring. If you would like to join our team, please fill out this form. (Please only fill the form out if you go to Long-View Micro school for convenience). From the Coronavirus to an amazing school year, it’s time to have a vacation. But before we go, the Betsy DeVos Interview was moved to Tuesday, and will be posted on Tuesday afternoon or on Wednesday. We hope you have a happy summer! :)
